Everyone in IISc is now focused on celebrating the once in a Century, the Centenary events which start from May 2008 and go up to May 2009.

IISc History - The birth of the Institute
It was on May 27, 1909 that Lord Minto, the then Viceroy of India, approved the Resolution and the Vesting Order leading to the establishment of the Indian Institute of Science. Over the past century the Institute has grown to be a formidable centre for research and development, and in many ways ushered in India's renaissance in science through the many institutions whose seeds were sown at IISc. Inaugural Centenary Lecture: The Birth of a Discipline
The Council of the Indian Institute of Science had decided to institute a Centenary Lecture Series to be delivered by the most distinguished scientists of the world to mark this milestone in the history of the institute. Prof P Balaram, Director IISc, did not have to look very far afield to find the Inaugural Lecturer in Prof Chintamani Nageswara Ramachandra Rao. Prof Rao, as Director of the Institute, charted new directions and took it to great heights. Continue reading
